Arvind Kumar Prajapati
Designation: Senior Field Supervisor

My name is Arvind Kumar Prajapati. I have been associated with SHIKSHA Initiative for the last five years i.e. since 2012. Before joining SHIKSHA, I used to teach the children through chalk and blackboard method, and to explain the concepts of maths, science and other subjects to the children, I used to explain by drawing pictures on the blackboard which was very difficult and sometimes children were unable to understand the concept. But when I joined SHIKSHA, I got an opportunity to teach children through ICT.

I was able to explain any concept properly and in detail through good pictures and children took great interest in reading. ICT also makes a teacher feel comfortable in teaching. Ever since I am working in SHIKSHA, I always get to learn something new. I learnt about the training skills required to run ICT classrooms, data entry, data analysis, power point presentations etc.

A story of Determination and Grit
“One can learn everything if they have the determination for it”

This is a story of Lailtun, aged 32, from Aadhna village, who enrolled herself in SHIKSHA+ centre and it has been life changing for her. She is not dependent on anyone now and is much more confident than before. She also shared an anecdote where her daughter was admitted to a hospital in Lucknow and when she was instructed to go to a particular room number, she did not ask for her husband’s help and found the room herself by identifying the numbers. This story speaks volume about the impact of the program.

When she first started coming to the SHIKSHA+ centre, she was hesitant to learn but looking at other empowered learners, she came to the centre everyday and practiced with same grit and determination. Now she proudly says, “I can write my name, my husband’s name and even my village’s name”.

Joining SHIKSHA+ centre has been life altering for her, as her mother told her once, “We could not send you school, but I am very proud of you now”. Lalitun expresses her heartfelt gratitude towards SHIKSHA Initiative and Shiv Nadar Foundation for letting her take her first step towards empowerment.

Sandhya’s Journey from SHIKSHA Ki GOONJ to SHIKSHA KIRAN

Sandhya is a Grade 2 student of Mahakhari Primary School who was very actively involved in SHIKSHA KI GOONJ and is currently enrolled in SHIKSHA KIRAN program of SHIIKSHA Initiative. She has been very enthusiastic since the beginning of SHIKSHA Ki GOONJ, participated in all the activities and games that were a part of the program and encourage her peers to learn more.

Sandhya has been a very good student since the beginning, says her father. She brought her father during SHIKSHA Ki GOONJ classes and he was estatic to see his daughter have fun and learn at the same time. SHIKSHA Kiran focusses on learning in a playful way to encourage participation and engagement.

She has been an inspiration to other children and parents alike, who are hesitant to send their wards to attend the classes.

At the end of the day, Sandhya says to her teacher – “I learn something new everyday and I cannot wait to go back home and tell my parents about it. I will wait for SHIKSHA Kiran van to visit again”

Shiva’s Transformation!

This quote stands true in case of Shiva Sharma who is enrolled in Grade 1 at Chaudhary Roop Ram Public School, Chiti, Sikandrabad. Shiva’s father is a driver by occupation and his mother stays at home. Both the parents wanted Shiva to go to school everyday so that he can study properly.

Initially when Shiva started coming to school, he was not very attentive and was standing out of the class almost every single day. After Shiva started attending SHIKSHA’s classes, he started becoming more regular and more curious. He become relaxed and more participative in class. He loves watching animated course and always repeats what the characters say in the animated content. Geeta, Shiva’s teacher says, “now he is the first one to raise hands whenever I ask a question!”. She adds, “Shiva’s transformation has been a great success story and I wish all the very best to Shiva.”
